AstraZeneca sales up.

A BUILD-UP in wholesale stocks sweetened the pill for drugs giant AstraZeneca yesterday after competition from generic versions hit sales of ulcer drug Losec.

The company is one of the biggest employers in Cheshire with 1,500 people employed in its pharmaceutical plants.

While sales of Losec in the US - where it is known as Prilosec - were down by 60pc to pounds 180m in the first three months of 2003,other product lines helped offset the impact.

Sales across the AngloSwedish group were pounds 2.97bn)a rise of 9pc or 4pc after currency adjustments.
