Astana celebrates Orthodox Epiphany.
Orthodox Christians in Astana celebrated on January 19 Epiphany.
Traditionally, on this day clergymen consecrate the water in churches and temples; the water is also consecrated in special cruciform ice-holes on reservoirs. It is believed that this water has healing features, therefore many people dip into Epiphany fonts to strengthen their health, reports Astana.gov.kz.
Annually, during the Epiphany bathing, water rescue services work in emergency mode. At this time, operational vehicle of water-saving service of Astana DES with two interchangeable groups of rescue divers and a medical nurse are on duty at three ice-holes arranged by Astana Akimat on Yesil River; all the ice-holes are patrolled. Additional instructions are given for organizers and participants of bathing on-site.
In addition, medical staff brigade is also on duty at the Epiphany ice-holes: ambulance of Disaster Medicine Centre of ES of RoK MIA and emergency ambulance of Healthcare Office.
The procession was attended by about 150 Orthodox people.
