Assad: Ideological war, attempts to erase or replace identity rank amongst the most dangerous forms of colonial attack on Syria.

NNA - Damascus - Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, said Sunday that "the ideological war and attempts to erase or replace the identity are amongst the most dangerous forms of the colonial attack on Syria."

"The Arab region has risen mainly on an ideology of the inseparability between Arabism and Islam, whereby adhering to such a principle remains one of the basic factors for restoring social and intellectual security and stability in our communities," added Assad, speaking during a meeting with professors and graduate students at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Damascus.

"The West has attempted to eliminate said ideology in order to control our region and the role of Arab states; however, upon failing in that area, it resorted to playing on the terminology of changing the essence of our ideologies," noted Assad.

"Syria is targeted not only in light of its important geo-political position in the region, but also because of its historical role and its major impact on the Arab street," added Assad. He went on to refer to a turning point in the Syrian crisis, namely in light of its military achievements in the war against terrorism, and in terms of national reconciliations and the growing public awareness of risk objectives facing the country.

"The State is seeking to restore security and stability in major regions hit by terrorists, after which it shall devote its efforts to the pursuit of underlying terrorism areas and cells," Assad concluded.
