The 319 Fourth Street project included the ground-up construction of a contextual modern brownstone on a narrow lot that had been vacant for over 50 years. The goal of the project was to design and build a new building that would complete the block and set a new standard for what contextual infill development in Brooklyn's brownstone neighborhoods could look like. The building's brick and brownstone facade was traditional yet subtly modern, matching the materials and overall approach to neighboring buildings, but with a twist C double-hung windows that are wider than what is found in most narrow brownstones, golden ironspot brick to set the building apart from its neighbors, and over 700 custom shaped cove bricks fabricated for this project.

The Orner Preservation Awards, which were inaugurated this year, recognize projects that are compatible with the historic architecture of Park Slope, Brooklyn and interventions by individuals or groups to protect the neighborhood's historic character. The objective of the awards is to encourage projects and endeavors that make a positive contribution to maintaining or enhancing Park Slope's unique identity. The Awards are presented by the Park Slope Civic Council.

The Awards honor Evelyn Ortner (1924-2006) and Everett Ortner (1919-2012), long-time residents of and advocates for the community who, beginning in the 1960s, played a pivotal role in transforming Park Slope C then a neighborhood in decline C into the vibrant community that it is today. By encouraging people to purchase decaying houses in Park Slope and other historic neighborhoods, the Ortners helped these communities regain their social and economic vitality. The couple also played key roles in the creation of the Park Slope Historic District, now the largest landmarked district in New York City.

Seth A. Brown, Aspen Equities' founder, commented, "We are deeply honored to have won the inaugural Ortner Preservation Award and look forward to completing other projects which improve neighborhoods across Brooklyn."

John Casson, the Ortner Awards program administrator said, "The[winning] projects and activities demonstrate quite clearly that renovation and new construction can make a positive contribution to the appearance of Park Slope and other brownstone neighborhoods. Hopefully, these examples of excellence in preservation will be emulated by others."
