Asklepios gets conditional nod to raise Rhoen interest.

14 March 2013 a[euro]" Germany-based Asklepios Kliniken GmbH would need to sell the Harzklinik hospital and an outpatient facility in the Goslar region in order to build a blocking minority in peer Rhoen-Klinikum AG (ETR:RHK), the German Federal Cartel Office has said in an e-mailed statement today, cited by Bloomberg.

Asklepios, which last year bought a stake of less than 10% in Rhoen, wants to raise its shareholding to about 10.1% in an effort to prevent potential suitors from taking over the hospital operator. Any other potential buyer would need to secure a stake of over 90% to complete such a transaction, Bloomberg said.

Reuters reported the conditional nod earlier today, quoting its own sources.

Last year, German healthcare group Fresenius SE & Co KGaA (ETR:FRE) failed to acquire Rhoen for EUR3.1bn (USD4bn) as Asklepios purchased its initial interest in the firm. In January, Rhoen noted it will make an attempt to convince the shareholders that got on the way of that transaction to back a partnership with peers.Country: GermanySector: HealthcareTarget: Rhoen-Klinikum AGBuyer: Asklepios Kliniken GmbHType: StakebuildingStatus: Bidding
