Ascot: Semple success on belated return.

Byline: Graham Cunningham

LANARKSHIRE trainer Ian Semple saddled a winner on his first visit to Ascot in 21 years when Kelburne landed the concluding handicap in the hands of Mick Kinane.

Semple, who intends running Kelburne at Goodwood tomorrow and has booked Kinane again, said: "The last time I came here was with Posse when he won the St James's Palace Stakes while I was working for John Dunlop. Kelburne is my first runner here."

Semple added: "He'll probably stay here overnight. He'll have a penalty, but Mick said he had a couple of lengths in hand and he's a tough bugger."
