Asante Mampong to get Zipline Distribution Centre.
Zipline, the drone delivery company's only distribution centre located at Omenako in the Eastern Region, is set to build one of four distribution centres at Asante Mampong, officials of the company have revealed at a meeting with journalists in Kumasi.
The move is to help improve service delivery to the various health facilities in the Ashanti Region.
Two more of the distribution centres are expected to be built at Walewale in the Savannah Region, and Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.
The new distribution centres, aside improving coverage, will also provide employment for the youth.
Zipline has surpassed the expectations of many, making life-saving deliveries of essential medical supplies such as blood, anti-snake medicines and vaccines among other services in various remote villages in Ghana within three months of their operations.
Naa Adorkor Yawson, Systems Integration Lead for Zipline Ghana, however, debunked some fears and misconceptions expressed by a section of the Ghanaian society.
She explained at the meeting that their drones did not have cameras, and hence, could not take photographs of people as they travel.
She also explained that packages, when dropped by the drones, do not break on impact, since they are carefully packaged and protected.
The Zipline official further stated that hospitals and patients would not pay for the drone services, as 'Government has not even paid one cedi for Zipline services.'
Madam Yawson also explained that none of their drones had crash-landed, as was being propagated, and appealed to Ghanaians to consider the lives being saved and avoid politicising their operations.
