Families face being fleeced on their summer holidays as the pound plummets to its lowest level against the Euro for July.

The pound spiralled into decline yesterday leaving many holiday makers struggling to get as much for their money abroad.

Uncertainty surrounding a no-deal Brexit is thought to be to blame for the significant drop.

With the pound currently worth 1.11 euros and 1.24 US dollars.

Opinion was divided over the impact the low exchange rate would have on holidaymakers.

We asked Echo readers who are on holiday or have one planned in the near future how they have been affected.

Here's what they had to say:

Gareth Mcghee said: "Just back from Lanzarote, it you change 100 pound your getting just over 100 euro, shocking."

John McMahon said: "I'm going to America in September and the dollar is $1.24 for [pounds sterling]1. Last time I went in 2011 it was over $1.6 and in 2008 it was $1.9. Scandalous I tell you!!"

Another Echo reader, @scouseian68, said: "Cyprus 4yrs ago [euro]2.80 a pint, Euro 1.45 so [pounds sterling]2 a pint, now [euro]3 a pint, Euro 1.1 so [pounds sterling]3 across the whole holiday adds up.."

While Echo reader, Billy Combover, siad he was not letting the low exchange rate ruin his holiday. He said: "Got 1.09. Absolutely Sh*te like but it's not stopping us."

Other people argued the pound has been at a low rate for years.

Craig Riley said: "Been this way for years."

While @classlaa said: "In my experience, I haven't been able to get good exchange on my money anywhere that uses the Euro for about 6 years. So way before Brexit."

However, some people did not think the change to sterling would be noticable to those travelling abroad.

WoodlandsSantos said: "It's basically pennies. It's still cheaper in most places. Unless you're going City breaks where it's always been expensive."

The drop means people travelling to abroad to Europe and further afield will get less for their money. The exchange rate from pound to Euro is at its lowest rate against the euro in since late July 1999 and for more than 50 years against the dollar.
