As a Lib Dem my conscience is clear; Letters

UNFORTUNATELY, I believe I do need to respond to J Hampton's personal attack on me (Labour blamed for everything, Letters August 30).

J Hampton asks if I am denying that Brown and Blair saved the NHS from collapse. Yes, I am denying that, they did no such thing.

Look at how many times prescription charges went up between 1997 and 2010; look at the mess the dental industry is in making it nearly impossible to get an NHS dentist anymore...

they introduced PFIs and began introducing Foundation Hospitals which in the end only take resources away from frontline care.

J Hampton then goes on to talk about how Al Qaeda and the Taliban infiltrated Iraq bringing suicide bombers.

I think I need to remind J Hampton that the reason Mr Blair told us we needed to go into Iraq was because they (Iraq) had weapons of mass destruction.

This was the lie that Mr Blair told this country and something I hope he will one day have to answer for.

Finally, J Hampton said that I should have a guilty conscience for being a member of the Lib Dems.

My conscience is clear on that but guilty on the fact that I fought so hard to get a Labour Government elected in 1997.
