Art gives way to exotic holidays; Film.

IT MIGHT have picked up a clutch of Oscars but fans of the film The Artist will have to wait a little longer to see it in Elland.

For the Rex Cinema has had to delay its showing because the movie currently mesmerising its audiences is the star studded, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. And the film is in such demand that the Rex has agreed to keep it for another week. Once every few years we get a film like this, said the Rex''s proprietor Charles Morris.

Years back it was Shirley Valentine, then there were films like Brassed Off, Calendar Girls, Mamma Mia and The King''s Speech.

"Now we have another, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which is drawing all the crowds and bringing full houses most nights."

Under pressure from the film distributors and its customers, the Rex will keep the film for at least another week.

It will begin another week''s run today with matinees on Wednesday March 21 (2.30pm) and Thursday March 22 (10.30am).

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group who each decide to spend their retirement at a specially-constructed hotel in India. It has a stellar cast of the best of British acting talent, including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Celia Imrie and Penelope Wilton.
