Tenders are invited for Art in the Parks: Active Open Space


The Fund For Public Health In New York, Inc. (Fphny) On Behalf Of The New York City Department Of Health And Mental Hygiene (Dohmh) And In Partnership With The City Of New York Parks & Recreation (Nyc Parks), Is Seeking Proposals From Community-based Organizations For Art In The Parks: Active Open Space, An Initiative To Activate Neighborhood Parks With Health-inspired Public Art Projects. Fphny Anticipates Awarding Contracts Of Up To $15,000 To Up To 8 Community-based Organizations To Support A Community Engagement And Artist Selection Process That Culminates With The Installation Of Works In Up To 8 Designated Parks In South Bronx, East Harlem And Central Brooklyn. These Parks Are Located In Neighborhoods Confronting Significant Public Health Challenges And Are In Greatest Need Of Community Venues That Support Physical Activity. Some Evidence Suggests That Exposure To Green Space May Increase Physical Activity Levels And Positively Affect A Range Of Health Outcomes, Including Blood Pressure And Depression.1 Researchers Have Also Found That Green Space May Moderate The Effects Of Income Inequality On Disparities In Mortalityin Other Words, High Exposure To Green Space May Help Offset Some Of Increased Risk Of Death That Is Observed Among Low-income Populations.2 Building On This And Other Active Design Strategies, This Initiative Will Employ Public Art As Way To Create A Walkable Destination Within A Park And Enhance The Health Benefits Of Neighborhood Parks.3 Contracts Will Be Awarded To Community Based Organizations To Fund The Design And Installation Of Public Art In Designated Nyc Parks Locations. This Request For Proposals (Rfp) Is Not Asking For Submissions Of Public Art, But Rather For Proposals Describing The Processes For Artist Selection, Community Engagement And Artwork Development And Installation. Funding For These Projects Will Be Disbursed By Fphny To Eligible Organizations Based On Their Response To This Rfp. The Funding For This Award Is Provided By The Centers For Disease Control And Prevention.
