Art Deco Sculpture

Alastair Duncan

Thames & Hudson

400 pages

This color-illustrated work for students, collectors, art historians, and others offers international examples of art deco sculpture in the 1920s and 1930s, demonstrating the metamorphosis of styles during the period. A dominant feature of the book is its biographies of artists, including extended bios of major sculptors. The section on interwar sculpture provides profiles of 13 avant-garde sculptors, including Joseph Cs<AEa>ky, Alfred Auguste Janniot, Victor Brecheret, Gustave Miklos, and Carl Milles. Later sections give examples of sculpture in the commercial and decorative arts, describe the work of commercial foundries, detail materials and techniques, and explore architectural and monumental sculpture of Europe, Scandinavia, North America, and South America, looking at examples found in museums, WorldAEs Fairs, war memorials, and public buildings. The book contains color photos on every page, for a total of about 800 illustrations. ([umlaut] Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR)
