Arsenal lose the sup final; Gunners fans pay most for lager.

ARSENAL may be in a tight tussle with Man City in the Premier League but when it comes to the dearest pints they're way ahead.

The Gunners charge PS4.50 for a half-time lager at Stamford Bridge, 60p more than the Sky Blues.

And the North London club is PS1.10 ahead of Bournemouth whose supporters enjoy the cheapest beers.

Southampton fans pay the same as the Gunners and champions Chelsea aren't far behind in the lager league on PS4.40.

But the most bitter result for Gunners fans is that they pay 30p a pint more than North London arch rivals Spurs.

Yet the good news is that fans at nine grounds still pay under PS4, including Liverpool and Aston Villa, with both charging PS3.90.

The lager league also throws up a North-South divide.

Manchester United and Everton are the only northern clubs charging over PS4, compared to six in the South. The average price of a Premier League pint - varying from Carlsberg to Singha - stands at PS4.07. It still compares favourably with other sports.

England cricket fans pay PS4 for a pint of Fosters at Lord's. Many clubs in the top flight also offer meal deals letting fans buy a pint and grub. At Old Trafford you get a beer, pie and a large packet of crisps for PS7.

All the clubs charge above the average pub pint price which is PS3.31.

A Football Supporters Federation spokesman said: "A pie and pint go together nicely at football but many fans feel prices can be on the steep side.

"Our Away Fans Survey last season showed 34 per cent of fans thought refreshments were either poor or very poor value.

Neil Walker, of the Campaign for Real Ale, said: "We'd like to see clubs offer local real ales.

"It seems strange to have the same global brands up and down the country, often for an overinflated price."
