Arroyo under arrest in hospital.

Manila Police allowed former Philippines president Gloria Arroyo to remain at St Luke's Medical Centre in suburban Taguig after they served an arrest warrant for her alleged involvement in poll fraud in the 2007 congressional elections, senior officials said.

"She was in bed. She just woke up. She did not say anything, she just nodded. I think she expected it," said Senior Superintendent James Bucayo, adding, "She still wore a neck brace."

"When police officials began to read her rights, her lawyers stopped us because of her condition," said Bucayo. "She could not yet walk. She should stay in the hospital," said Bucayo.

Taking of her photos and fingerprinting were scheduled for today. "We did not want her to be stressed," said officer Bucayo, adding that she would not be pressed to go to the southern police district's office because of her condition.
