Arrows fail to hit the target in season's opener; JUNIOR ICE HOCKEY.

FOLLOWING a major revamp to junior leagues over the summer, the new-look Whitley Mischiefs and Whitley Arrows are ready to face-off this season.

The Arrows have already opened their campaign at Kingston but suffered an 8-2 defeat. However, there was promising play from the under-11 side as captain Harvey Starkie claimed both goals.

All the players kept their heads high during the four periods of 16 minutes, netminder Callum Sams blocking 23 shots on goal and receiving the Spirit of the Game award..

The Arrows' next game is on Sunday, October 11 against Manchester's Trafford Tornados. This will be the first time the two teams have played each other.

Face-off at Whitley Bay Ice Rink is at 12.30.

The Tornados are top of the North Under-11 League with a win and a draw from their opening two games.

Both the Arrows and Mischiefs are looking for donations and sponsorship to go towards tracksuits for their new players. Anyone interested in backing the squads should go to www.whitleybayicehockey.co.uk/sponsors.
