Arrests after man attacked at bus stop.

A MAN was sprayed in the face with a noxious liquid and hit over the head with a baton as he waited at a bus stop.

It happened at 7.15am yesterday while the victim on Newburn Road, in Throckley, Newcastle.

He was approached by two men, who squirted a noxious liquid in his face and hit him with a wooden baton.

The offenders then ran off towards Sainsbury's.

The injured man was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where he was released following treatment.

Two men, aged 20 and 49, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and were in police custody.

Police were carrying out inquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a 56-year-old man was assaulted in Newcastle."
