Aromatherapy recognized in B.C.

The British Columbia Alliance Of Aromatherapy (BCAOA) was granted occupational title designation under the Society Act of British Columbia in March of this year. This is the first time that any organization has received a government issued designation for Aromatherapy anywhere in North America.

This occupational title designation grants the BCAOA the exclusive fight to the title "Registered Aromatherapist" and the initials "R.A.". Pat Antoniak, R.N., R.A., Past President of the British Columbia Alliance Of Aromatherapy says, "The new title demands a much higher standard of performance by aromatherapists. It should no longer be considered simply a light relaxing experience; rather, it is taking its place as a scientifically proven therapeutic method of improving and maintaining health."

The new title will provide the public with a method of locating and identifying qualified and well-trained aromatherapists. Municipalities will be able to confirm the aromatherapist's status for licensing. Both may do so through the BCAOA's website www.bcaoa.org or by telephoning the BCAOA Registrar at 1-888-826-4722.
