Arid varsity ranked 3rd for improving environment.

RAWALPINDI -- Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University is ranked third among universities in Pakistan for greening their campus and adopting environment-friendly policies.

It also ranks 302 among all 719 participating universities of the world as per latest UI Green Metric World Universities ranking 2018.

The Green Metric World Universities Ranking is a university ranking platform established by the University of Indonesia in 2010.

This ranking aims to evaluate and rank universities all over the world according to their current condition and policies related to green campus and sustainability activities.

The criteria for the ranking of universities include campus setting and infrastructure, energy conservation and climate change, waste treatment, water resources, transportation and education.

The Arid varsity has also been ranked 302nd among the top 719 universities of the world with the total score of 5,000 as per UI Green Metric World Universities ranking.

Director, University Green Office, Shahid Ali Khan said they had improved the university's ranking from last year i.e. 341 out of 619 in 2017 to 302 out of 719.

He told Dawn that after the establishment of University Green Office in 2018, the office participated for the first time in any ranking.

He further expressed that improvement in the ranking was due to steps taken by the University Green Office like reducing single use plastic bags in the university campus, tree plantation and establishing plant nursery in the university.

The university is also actively participating in Clean and Green Pakistan Movement.
