A BRITISH explorer ship which was missing for 168 years has been found in the Canadian Arctic.
HMS Terror, on a mission led by Sir John Franklin to find the Northwest Passage, was abandoned by its crew in 1848 after it became trapped in ice.
The Arctic Research Foundation said the ship was located in 78ft of water in Terror Bay at King William Island and is a "perfect time capsule".
She was found after scientists talked to a native Inuk who said he had seen a mast-like pole in the ice.
HMS Terror was accompanied by HMS Erebus which also went missing but was found 31 miles away in 2014.
There were no survivors from the crews, totalling 129 men, who died attempting to walk away across the ice.
ARF searchers filmed the wreck from a remotecontrolled vehicle. There are no plans to raise either of the submerged vessels.
