Coventry City Football Club, Jimmy Hill, has said the people of the city should show it has a soul. Mr Hill, known to millions as the presenter of BBC television's Match of the Day football programme, called for more support for the city's football club and its activities in the ATV Focus programme Football - the Right for Survival

Yesterday union leaders of 100,000 bus workers employed by private companies in the province accepted the award of an arbitration tribunal, increasing the pay of conductors by 11s a week to pounds 7 10s. Midland "Red" fares are likely to rise as a result of the award, which is estimated to cost the company pounds 300,000 a year

At its next meeting, Worcester City Council will be asked by the General Purposes Committee to sanction an expenditure not exceeding pounds 5,000 to acquire a site to be selected by the War Office, upon which to erect cavalry barracks in the vicinity of the city
