Trade union leaders were told by BL cars yesterday that the company is speeding up its plans to cut the labour force by 25,000. Yesterday Edward Porter, of Albion Street, Coventry, was engaged upon a ladder doing some shafting at the engineering works of Messrs A. Herbert and Co., The Butts, when he apparently became giddy and fell to the ground. Two doctors were called to the site and it was found he had suffered serious injuries to his head. He was removed to the Coventry and Warwick Hospital in a critical conditionThe Birmingham Daily Post, March 1905
