Archie is a real ace.

ARCHIE Simmonds (MG Midget) took victory in Hartlepool DMC's autosolo at Seaton Carew.

He finished in 303.6 seconds, ahead of runner-up Phil Mayne from Thornaby (Mini), whose time of 316.6 seconds was enough to win the autotest class.

Tom Hall (Riley Elf) suffered a broken exhaust in each of his first two tests.

But as the rules allowed two scores to be dropped, he was able to finish third and top of the up to 1400cc class list in 317.7 seconds.

One of the most eye-catching performances came from 15-year-old Ben Leighton from Hartlepool who left a host of more experienced drivers - his dad Stuart included - in his wake as he finished sixth, and first in the production autotest class, in 327.7 seconds.
