Archetype selects Verity's Search'97 platform for MediaBank and NuDoc publishing applications.

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1997--

Verity search technology to be integrated into digital

asset management solution

Archetype, a Bitstream company (NASDAQ:BITS), and Verity Inc. (NASDAQ:VRTY), a leading provider of search and retrieval applications for the enterprise and the Internet, today announced that Archetype has licensed Verity's SEARCH'97 technology for integration into the MediaBank(TM) and NuDoc(TM) workflow management products for publishing.

By incorporating Verity's SEARCH'97 technology, MediaBank users will be able to perform full text search on virtually any textual content stored within the database. They can also take advantage of SEARCH'97's advanced search and query enhancements, including Query by Example, Natural Language Parsing and Spelling Error Override.

According to Sue Robertson, Archetype's general manager, "The Verity search engine is the standard for professional-level searching. Archetype joins Adobe(R), Netscape(R) and many other companies in selecting SEARCH'97; we chose it because we want to provide our customers with the best embedded technologies." Robertson continued, "SEARCH'97 enhances MediaBank's own engine by enabling searches on 384 different text formats."

"We are pleased to partner with Archetype because of its leadership in digital asset management in the graphic communications industry," said Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO of Verity Inc. "Verity's SEARCH'97 platform provides an excellent complement to MediaBank and NuDoc, helping to further enhance and speed up search and retrieval of publishing job elements."

Archetype plans to release a version of MediaBank that includes the SEARCH'97 technology in Q'4 1997.
