Arab driver fined after getting car stuck on Dubai Tram tracks.
Summary: The car was found stuck opposite the Dubai Marina Mall.
The Dubai Police had to call in a crane to remove a car from a tramway track after its driver drove down the track early on Sunday. According to a post on a closed group on Facebook, the car travelled for a good 500 metres before it came to a stop.
The police were notified about the incident around 5am. The police have not specified why the Arab driver drove down the track, but a top official said he has been fined.
Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the general department of traffic, said they received information about a car that was "stuck on a tram track" opposite the Dubai Marina Mall. He said it took the rescue teams "some time" to remove the car.
The incident did not affect tram operations nor did it cause any traffic jams.
This is not the first time an accident involving the Dubai Tram and a vehicle has taken place. In September 2015, an Arab man jumped a red traffic signal in Al Sufouh and crashed his car into a tram. In October last year, a Dubai court jailed the driver for a month, fined him Dh3,000 and suspended his driving licence for three months.
