Approval was granted for a minor variance for Sean Bredin at 519 Blue Lake Rd.

Dec. 7

Approval was granted for a minor variance for Sean Bredin at 519 Blue Lake Rd., South Dumfries township. The variance will allow for the construction of an accessory structure that will exceed the maximum lot coverage and height requirement. Theapplicant proposed an area of 180 square metres and a height of 7 metres whereas the standard is a maximum of 93 square metres and a height of 4.5 metres. Staff had recommended approval of the application.

At the Dec. 7 council meeting, Coun. Wheat reported that at least two nearby neighbours had objected to the variance which was the second one recently approved for that property for an oversized outbuilding that did not meet zoning requirements. "When will they get a third minor variance? When does it end?" he asked. "It opens the door for other people in estate residential areas [to ask for the same]." Mayor Ron Eddy said that when that sort of situation occurred with estate residential zoning, perhaps a site plan agreement should be required.
