Macintosh developer Apple Computer Corp has announced the immediate availability of its Xserve G5 server with over 30 gigaflops of processing power.

The new offering is a 1U rack-mount server that features dual G5 processing power together with Apple's Mac OS X Server software. This, according to the company, is designed to increase the power of the system as well as its performance and manageability.

Single processor 2.0GHz G5 servers are available now while dual processor versions will be made available in April.

A single 2.0GHz PowerPC G5 processor with 512MB of PC3200 ECC RAM, a single 80GB Apple Drive Module with expandability for up to 750GB, dual Gigabit Ethernet on-board, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 and unlimited client licences of Mac OS X Server is priced at GBP2,399.
