Apple's 2018 iPhones could come with a STYLUS, putting them in competition with Samsung's Galaxy Note 9; Apple could start using its Pencil accessory to take on Samsung's Galaxy Note 9.

Apple may go away from the direction Steve Jobs set the company on when theiPhone launched and he satirically asked "who wants a stylus?" A fresh leak suggests the new iPhone for 2018 could finally feature a touch sensitive stylus accessory.

To be more specific it looks like Apple will be using its already very capable Pencil stylus with its iPhones and not just iPads. This should work by connecting using Bluetooth on the new iPhones.

Since Apple's 2018 iPhones should all come in large sizes, they could be ideal for working with Apple's Pencil stylus.

According to Taiwan'sEconomic Daily News, Apple is working with chip supplier Elan, a company that supplies hardware to Wacom which is famous for its high-quality stylus accessories. This follows a similar rumour from Taiwan'sTrendForcerecently.

The difference between Samsung and Apple is that theGalaxy Note 9uses a stylus that slides into the phone for easy storage.

The Apple Pencil is quite a bit larger and more complex so it works well with a larger tablet but perhaps lugging it about with your phone is unrealistic.

So will Apple release a smaller one?

This seems unlikey. Apple will probably simply make the Pencil work with iPhone so that the larger 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus screen can be fully utilised with the stylus when at home or at work.

The leak suggests the Pencil support will apply to the OLED iPhone models only, so the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone may not get stylus love.

That leaves, according to rumours, the large 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus and the refreshed iPhone 11 which should have the same 5.8-inch screen as theiPhone X.

Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone models for 2018 later this year around September.
