Appeals for help to find sex attacker.
Police are hunting the man responsible for the New Year's Day attack, which happened outside of city centre nightspot Tup Tup Palace.
The reveller was making her way out of the exit after celebrating at the venue when a man approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her. The victim, a 22-year-old, was left shaken by the incident but was otherwise unharmed.
Afterwards, she approached the offender outside the club to ask him why he had assaulted her and a short verbal dispute took place, which police believe may have been witnessed by other people leaving Tup Tup at the time.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Police are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Newcastle.
"At around 3.15am on Friday, January 1, the 22-year-old woman was leaving the Tup Tup Palace club on St Nicholas Street, Newcastle, with friends.
"As she was making her way through the exit door, she was approached from behind by a man who sexually assaulted her."
The offender and another man then made off along Collingwood Street, past Subway, where they met another group of men.
Now the victim has bravely summoned the courage to allow the police to reveal details of the assault in a bid to find the culprit.
PC Janet Ryan, from Newcastle Area Command, said: "There were a lot of people who were leaving the club at this time, and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward."
The offender is 25 to 30, 5ft 8in to 5ft 11in tall, of slim build, with short, shaved fair hair, and white eyebrows.
He was wearing a black baseball cap with a pattern on the front, and of a mesh material at the back. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a white emblem, and dark coloured jeans.
It is believed the offender was with another man, who is described as black, around 30 years old, 5ft 6in, of stocky build, with facial hair, wearing a black leather jacket, and was possibly holding a mobile phone.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 03456 043 043.
