Appeal by sex pest rejected.

Byline: MOHAMMED ASLAM

A JOBLESS man who sexually assaulted a woman in a Manama street has lost his appeal against conviction. The 28-year-old Bahraini was jailed for a year by the High Criminal Court in April this year, after being convicted of groping a Filipina's breasts and buttocks.

He appealed to the Supreme Appeal Court, claiming that he accidentally bumped into the 20-year-old woman while crossing the road, in November last year.

But the court rejected the appeal and upheld the original conviction and sentence.

The Filipina told police she was walking in Manama with a female friend, when the defendant appeared with three other men.

"Suddenly he grabbed and felt my breasts and then my buttocks without my consent and then fled with his friends," she said.

The defendant told investigators he simply bumped into the woman while he was trying to cross the road between parked cars.

"I apologised to the girl but she did not accept my apology and was angry at me," he said.
