Appeal after thefts from sailing clubs.

POLICE are investigating thefts from North sailing clubs.

In the last six weeks there has been two thefts from Kielder Water sailing club and two from Derwent Reservoir sailing club. Between November 4 and 5, thieves stole a Mercury outboard motor from Kielder and between November 11 and 15, a Suzuki outboard motor was also taken from Derwent Reservoir.

Between September 28 and October 1, thieves stole a blue Yamaha DRO 30 outboard motor, and then between October 24 and 31, a Merk 25 'steering wheel' outboard engine was also taken.

In total the motors stolen are worth around PS6,000.

West Tynedale Neighbourhood Insp Kevin Oates said: "We are stepping up patrols around the reservoir sites and would appeal for residents in rural Northumberland to keep their eyes open for suspicious people or vehicles and regardless of the time of day.

"They should contact us straight away if they see anything suspicious."

Witnesses to any thefts should call police on 101 ext 69191.
