Anxiety led to woman's suicide; MUM FOUND HANGED.

Byline: By KERRY WOOD

A MUM hanged herself while her partner was out walking the dog.

Jan Watson, 37, had a history of anxiety and depression, an inquest heard.

Ms Watson died in February, 2007, at the home she shared with her partner of four years, Les Wilson, and teenage daughter, Ashley, in Conyers Gardens, Chester-le-Street.

After her death her distraught family criticised mental health services, claiming more could have been done to help Ms Watson who also suffered from ME.

At Durham County Hall, coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded the verdict that she intended to take her life but added it was while suffering a mental illness.

He said: "It is worthwhile putting this in the verdict because perhaps if she had not had the mental illness in the first place she would not have done this."

The inquest was told Ms Watson had hanged herself while her partner was out walking the dog.

Mr Wilson said that in the six months leading up to her death his partner had deteriorated and was not the same person.

"She was constantly going down hill and couldn't even smile," he said.

Giving a brief history of her conditions, Dr Thejam from the Tees Esk and Wear Valley Trust detailed how the Mental Health Service had worked with her.

It emerged that twice while getting help she had attempted to take her own life. Dr Thejam added that at times she was stable but at others she was anxious and restless.

The inquest heard that Ms Watson's family wanted to know if the eight different medications she was given in six months could have had a negative affect on her behaviour.

Mr Thejam said it was uncertain what the effects would be. A post mortem carried out last year revealed Ms Watson died from asphyxia due to hanging.
