Antiques fair back again.

A leisure centre will be the venue for a large indoor antiques fair later this month.

Organisers say a huge range of antiques and collectables will be on show in the Wentworth Leisure Centre at Wentworth Park, Hexham. The event will be staged on Tuesday, January 18, from 10am to 4pm.

Recycle trees

RESIDENTS in Blyth Valley are being urged to think green and take advantage of the council's annual Christmas tree recycling scheme. Recycling sites at Asda in Blyth, Alexandra Park in Cramlington, and the Ranch car park on the Links Road, will operate until Monday.

Plant takeover

LIFTING gear specialists Certex UK based at the Team Valley, Gateshead, is starting 2005 under new ownership. The plant is one of 15 distribution centres in the UK which has been bought in a management buyout.

Home grants

DISABLED people are to benefit after the North East was given a 10% increase in the amount of cash available to help develop their homes. The cash will be used to allow householders to live more independently by adapting properties with hoists, ramps and other important facilities.

Fishy business

THEY sound like the cast from the hit animated film Shark Tale. But Starfish, Seahorse, Stingray, Marlin, Barracuda are awards youngsters can win for swimming at Sunderland City Council pools at Washington Leisure Centre, Newcastle Road Baths. Crowtree Leisure Centre and Hetton Sports Complex.

Bowl 'em over

BUDDING bowlers are being urged to get top tips from professional coaches. The Parks sports and leisure centre in North Shields is starting a development scheme for youngsters wanting to play bowls. The scheme is for juniors below 18. It offers professional coaching on Sundays from 10-noon.

Cash on offer

COMMUNITY groups are being urged to apply for cash to fund their activities. The plea comes from the Washington Community Development Trust, a spin-off from the early days of Washington Development Corporation which masterminded the town development. Call (0191) 416 2356.
