A 1955 LaFrance ladder truck sold for $2,800 to a buyer in Lynden at a memorable auction sale.

St. George resident George German sold off his farm and construction vehicles, vintage fire trucks and toy truck collection on Oct. 20, attracting a large crowd of buyers from all over Ontario. Many unique items went on the block including a 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood stretch limo, old tractors, and vintage tin trucks.

German spent more than 52 years acquiring his collection from all over North America. His United Empire Loyalist ancestors had farmed at the same acreage on Highway 24 for five generations before German established his trucking and soil hauling business. German, 77, later said in an interview that he sold off the collection because it was getting too hard to climb into truck cabs--he was now ready to retire.
