Antioxidants.

ACCURATE COLOR INC.

Offers primary and secondary antioxidant concentrates for most thermoplastics. Products can be compounded with other additives as required.

ACETO CORP.

Offers polyphenols for plastics and rubber.

AKROCHEM CORP.

Antioxidants include hindered phenols, mercapto-benzirnidazoles, di-hydroquinoline, butylated paracresol, amines, and unsaturated acetals.

ALBEMARLE CORP.

Ethanox 702, a sterically hindered diphenolic, is said to provide excellent temperature stability at low price in thermoplastics. A crystalline powder with a melting point of 309 F, it is FDA-approved for food-contact use in several substrates.

Ethanox 330, a high-performance premium phenolic, offers noncoloring properties, extraction resistance and FDA acceptance. This crystalline powder, with a melting point of 471 F, is essentially biologically inert.

Ethanox 398 is a unique nonhygroscopic, hydrolytically stable fluorophosphonite secondary antioxidant.

ALBRIGHT & WILSON AMERICAS

Provides trialkyl and dialkyl hydrogen phosphites as heat, light and color stabilizers in polymers. Most popular of these are triisopropylphosphite, tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphite, trimethyl-phosphite and bis (2-ethylhexl) hydrogen phosphite. High solvency, slow oxidation, low volatility, plus ability to combine with metal halides make phosphites useful stabilizers, either alone, or as part of a stabilizer system for acrylonitrile, polyolefins, polystyrene, ethyl cellulose, PVC, and alkyds.

ALLIED COLOR INDUSTRIES, INC.

Antioxidants supplied in pellefized concentrate for thermoplastics. Standard and custom formulations available.

Concentrates are produced containing antioxidants, uv absorbers and any other specialty stabilizing additive. Available for almost all thermoplastics in cubes, pellets, and powders. Products may contain the specific stabilizer alone, or other additives and/or color according to specifications.

AMETEK WESTCHESTER PLASTICS DIV.

Supplies special concentrates of uv stabilizers, antioxidants and antistatic agents in specific resins.

CAROLINA COLOR CORP.

Offers custom formulations of antioxidants and metal deactivators in concentrate form for most thermoplastics. Can be compounded with other additives as specified.

CHROMA CORP.

Offers short-run, custom orders (25 lb to truckload) of pellet antioxidant concentrates. Customer may specify additive, concentration, and carrier polymer.

CIBA-GEIGY CORP. ADDITIVES DIV.

Irganox antioxidants are high-molecular-weight hindered phenolics that provide long-term oxidative and thermal stability. Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076 have good compatibility with polyolefins and styrenics and are FDA-regulated in numerous applications. Irganox MD-1024 is a metal deactivator and all-purpose antioxidant. Irganox 1035, 1010 and MD-1024 are offered for wire and cable.

Irganox MD-1024 is recommended for countering the detrimental effects of copper and other metals, which can cause discoloration and loss of physical properties in polymers. Product is said to extend the life of PP, HDPE, LDPE and thermoplastic elastomer insulation that comes in contact with copper conductors. It reportedly can also inhibit metal-induced degradation in mineral-filled systems and coatings. Further enhancement of processing and heat stability of polymers results when metal deactivators are combined with antioxidants 1010 and 1035.

Irganox B-225 and Irganox B-215 are a class of low-volatility, thermally and hydrolysis-resistant additive blends reportedly offering excellent process and long-term stability in polyolefins.

COZ CORP. ALLIED PRODUCTS CORP.

Concentrates containing antioxidants, heat and light stabilizers, and lubricants can be supplied in PS, polyolefins and most other thermoplastics.

CYTEC INDUSTRIES UNIT OF AMERICAN CYANAMID CO.

Offers a broad range of antioxidants. Primary phenolics include Cyanox 425 and 2246 for polyolefins and styrenics. A high-performance phenolic, Cyanox 1790, is said to offer excellent activity at one-half to one-third typical loadings for other primary phenolics. Cyanox 1790 reportedly offers excellent gas-fade resistance, melt-stabilization properties, and low hot-water extractability.

Cyanox 2777, a high-performance phenolic/phosphite blend, is based on Cyanox 1790 and the hydrolysis-resistant tris(2A-di-t-butylphenyl) phosphite.

Also available in the Cyanox line are secondary thioester antioxidants, such as Cyanox LTDP, STDP, MTDP, 1212, and Cyanox 711 liquid. Products synergize with primary phenolics for in-service stabilization of polyolefins and other polymers.

DOVER CHEMICAL CORP.

Offers a line of organophosphites as heat stabilizers in PVC, ABS, polyolefins. Also used for better color stability in polyesters, polyurethanes and alkyd resins.

EASTMAN CHEMICAL CO.

Hydroquinone derivatives are used as antioxidants for polyether polyols. Company also supplies a copper deactivator, Eastman Inhibitor OABH, for polyolefins, especially for use in wire insulation. Tenox TBHQ and Tenox BHA are food-grade antioxidants used in PE packaging.

EVANS CHEMETICS HAMPSHIRE CHEMICAL CORP.

Supplies Evanstab thioester antioxidants for polyolefins, ABS, and PS. Generally used with phenolic antioxidants for improved color stability and extended product life. Also offers improved melt stability during polymer fabrication and reduced color formation during compounding.

Evanstab antioxidants include dilauryl thiodipropionate, distearyl thiodipropionate, dimyristyl thiodipropionate and ditridecyl thiodipropionate. Dilauryl and distearyl esters FDA-approved for food packaging.

FAIRMOUNT CHEMICAL CO., INC.

Mixxim AO-20 and AO-30 high-molecular-weight hindered phenolic antioxidants provide excellent processing, thermal stability and color to plastics and elastomers.

Mixxim CD-12 metal deactivator retards degradation of wire and cable grade polyolefins. Found to reduce extratier corrosion in halogen containing flame retardant polymers.

FERRO CORP., PLASTICS COLORANTS & DISPERSIONS DIV.

Manufactures a liquid antioxidant/slip/antiblock concentrate for reprocessing film scrap. Product contains over 85% active ingredients.

GE SPECIALTY CHEMICALS

Weston polymer additives include a variety of liquid and solid organic phosphite compounds that function as hydroperoxide decomposers, metal-complexing agents, and antioxidants. When used with primary antioxidants, these materials offer increased resistance to heat, light and oxidation. Weston 619 distearyl pentaerythritol diphosphite is said to significantly reduce discoloration tendencies of polyolefins and provide improved molecular-weight control.

Ultranox 626, a pentaerythritol diphosphite, is a hydrolytically stable, high-performance secondary antioxidant. Product offers optimum processing stability (color and melt flow), long-term aging, uv stability and cost-performance for PP, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, HIPS, ABS, PET and other polymers.

Both Weston 619 and Ultranox 626 have broad regulatory approval in PP, PE, PVC and polycarbonate for food-packaging applications. Weston TPP (triphenyl phosphite) is for use primarily in PVC and epoxies. Weston TNPP (tris-nonylphenyl phosphite) improves processing and properties in many polymers. It has broad regulatory approval for food-packaging applications.

Also offered are several phenolic types in the Ultranox 200 series, which includes Ultranox 276 (octadecyl 3, 5 ditert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate) polymeric hindered phenol.

Blends of phosphites and phenolic antioxidants also offered.

THE GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO.

Nonstaining, nondiscoloring Wingstay phenolic antioxidants for rubber and plastics provide long-term protection against aging, stability for polymer storage in varied conditions, and proven performance in food-contact applications. Wingstay amine antioxidant/antiozanants are said to provide low volatility and resistance to side reactions. Company manufactures a complete line of age resistors designed for high-temperature applications, stabilization, resistance to weather and high ozone levels, and overall protection.

GREAT LAKES CHEMICAL CORP.

Offers a variety of phenolic- and organophosphite-based antioxidants.

HARWICK CHEMICAL CORP.

Offers a variety of antioxidants and metal deactivators in plasticizer and PVC-based concentrates.

HIMONT U.S.A., INC.

Xantrix ADS (additive delivery system) incorporates loadings up to 25% by weight of liquid or low melting additives into polyolefins, while remaining dry and free-flowing. Based on reactor technology, these concentrates undergo minimal heat history during manufacture, resulting in a product that disperses uniformly even at high letdowns. Custom formulations available in any quantifies and may contain single additive components or combinations in all additive categories.

HITECH POLYMERS INC.

Offers pelletized concentrates of antistatic agents, antioxidants, waxes, pigments, oils and other polymer additives for elastomers and engineering thennoplastics. Products made to customer's specifications.

HOECHST CELANESE CORP.

Offers Hostanox SE 10, a suffer-containing costabilizer antioxidant; Hostanox 03, a phenolic-type antioxidant; Hostanox OSP 1 metal deactivator; and Hostanox PAR 24 phosphite.

HOFFMANN-LAROCHE INC.

Offers Ronotec line of high-performance primary phenolic antioxidants and proprietary formulations designed for specific end uses.

Ronotec 202 liquid USP alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) provides excellent processing and color stability. Safe and acceptable for food contact applications. Easy to handle with excellent dispersion.

Ronotec 201 technical grade vitamin E offers a cost-effective method to stabilize polyolefins, polyols, TPEs, unsaturated polyesters and petrochemical waxes. Exceptional thermal stability alleviates volatility problems and cuts down on gel formation in film products and coatings. Eliminates taste and odor problems.

Ronotec OP-120 liquid tocopherol-based formulation provides color stability and superior melt flow control. Phosphite-free and eliminates hydrolytic instability and black specks.

KENRICH PETROCHEMICALS INC.

Titanate coupling agents are said to have their own stabilization capabilities in the form of antioxidant metal deactivation. Owing to their high dispersibility, their efficiency reportedly tends to be about 25 times greater than materials such as alkyl triaryl phosphites.

MONSANTO CO. CHEMICAL GROUP

Phenolic antioxidants include Santonox and Santonox R for use in PE and other plastics; and Santowhite Powder for PP, PE, nylon molding powders, and other polymers.

MORTON INTERNATIONAL, INC. MORTON PERFORMANCE CHEMICALS

Carstab thioester synergist antioxidants are used in PP, HDPE, and ABS. Carstab DLTDP (dilauryl thiodipropionate) and Carstab DSTDP (distearyl thiodipropionate) provide highest performance when combined synergistically with hindered phenolic antioxidants to retard color formation and embrittlement from oxidative degradation during processing or long-term heat aging. FDA-approved for food wraps and containers when used in accordance with appropriate provisions.

PATCO POLYMER ADDITIVES DIV. AMERICAN INGREDIENTS CO.

Offers neutralizers based on lactate chemistry for use in polyolefins with all common antioxidant systems. Pationic 1230, 1240, 1250, 930 and 940 provide effective neutralization of residual metal catalysts and improve color, water carryover, and gas-fade properties in the polymer.

Produces hindered phenolic and other antioxidants:

* CAO-3, food-grade BHT. Can be used for technical grade applications.

* CAO-5, (antioxidant 2246) 2,2'-methylenebis-(4-methyl-6-tertiary-butylphenol).

* CAO-14 polymer-grade, ultra-high-quality CAO-5.

* Prodox-500, butylated hydroxy ethyl benzene (BHEB).

* Prodox-3114, tris-(3,5-di-tertiary butyl-4-hydroxy benzyl) isocyanurate.

* Prodox SCR, 4,4'thiois(6 tert-buty-meta-cresol).

* Prodox 120, styrenated phenol.

* Prodox 1010, tetrakis (methylene (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocin-namate))methane.

PMS CONSOLIDATED

Specialty additive concentrates, liquid or solid, with or without colorants are available containing antioxidants, uv stabilizers, fillers, silicones, fire retardants, blowing agents, slip agents or antistats.

PROGRESSIVE POLYMERS, INC.

Offers antioxidant concentrates alone or in combination with other additives and processing aids. Specializes in custom concentrates. Variety of thermoplastic carrier resins available.

QUANTUM CHEMICAL CORP.

Spectratech concentrates and compounds include colorants formulated for processing methods and additive concentrates such as antioxidants, uv stabilizers, flame retardants, foaming agents and processing aids.

REEDSPECTRUM DIV. SANDOZ CHEMICALS CORP.

Offers custom-formulated antioxidant concentrates for thermoplastic molding and extrusion. Multifunctional concentrates containing antioxidants and colorants available as pellets. Metal deactivators for olefin polymers also available.

RHONE-POULENC INC.

Provides two phenolic antioxidants: a crystal form of DBPC (di-tert-butyl-para-cresol) used to prevent oxidation in plastics; and BHT for use as an additive approved for food contact. Levels used may range from 0.01% to 0.2%.

SANDOZ CHEMICALS CORP.

Sandostab P-EPQ is a broadly FDA-approved high-molecular-weight phosphonite (with excellent migration characteristics) that is stable to 662 F and especially soluble and compatible in polyolefin resins with very low densities. It synergizes with both sulfur and phenolic antioxidants, and in highly filled applications is not deactivated by fillers. Especially suited for low-water carry-over applications and in clarified polyolefin resins requiring long-term retention of clarity and low haze. Used in all polyolefins--linear-low-density, low-density, and high-density polyethylene, polyproylene and polybutene-1; styrenics (crystal, HIPS, ABS), polycarbonate, polyester, poly 4-methyl penterie, and engineering thermoplastic blends. Recommended for coating related applications and in coating resin systems requiting high bake residence times and temperatures over 130 C.

In engineering thermoplastics and polyolefins, Sandostab P-EPQ reportedly maintains excellent retention of physical properties of recycled resin and extends uv stability. It is further said to inhibit "burnout" of pigments and aid in dispersion.

H.W. SANDS CORP.

Offers tert butyl hydroquinone, an antioxidant for use in nylon, PE and PP.

SCHENECTADY CHEMICALS INC.

Isonox 129 is a high-performance hindered phenolic crystalline antioxidant, which can provide process stability in polyolefins and styrenics. It has broad FDA approval for indirect food contact.

Isonox 132 is a low-cost, liquid hindered phenolic antioxidant with applications in stabilization of liquid polyols. It is also effective as a stabilizer for PVC.

Polybatch additive concentrates include different carriers, and slip and antiblock, antistatic and uv resistance, antifogging, foaming, and antioxidant.

SPECTRUM COLORS, INC

Offers custom formulating and compounding of antioxidants for specific color/polymer blends. Concentrates can be formulated with or without colorants for most thermoplastics. Other additives also may be included. Metal deactivators are available for olefin polymers.

STANDRIDGE COLOR CORP.

Offers custom formulated antioxidant concentrates for nylon, PP and polyester fibers, and for film. Additives available as single dispersions or in combination with other additives or colorants.

SYNTHETIC PRODUCTS CO.

Concentrated dispersions of all standard antioxidants in a choice of compatible vehicles are available.

UNIROYAL CHEMICAL, CO., INC.

Naugard line of antioxidants includes hindered phenolics and bisphenolics, secondary amines, and phosphites. Phenolics such as Naugard BHT, Naugard 76 and Naugard 10 are used in polyolefins, HIPS, ABS, etc. Naugard 445, a white nonstaining secondary amine, is used in ABS, polyolefins, nylon 6 and polyether polyols. Wytox 312 and Nangard P are general-purpose phosphites. Naugard 524 high-performance solid phosphite and phenolic/phosphite blends such as Naugard 492 stabilize PP, PE, HIPS, and ABS.

Also available is Naugard XL-1, a high-molecular-weight phenolic antioxidant and metal deactivator. It is reported to be the only FDA-approved product that provides both antioxidant and metal-deactivator stabilization.

Hindered phenols include Nauga-white, a general-purpose product recommended for ABS; Naugard SP, an economical nondiscoloring, nonstaining product for polyolefins and HIPS; and Naugard 529, an FDA-approved liquid used in a variety of applications, especially in olefins and styrenes.

R.T. VANDERBILT CO. INC.

Offers Vanox phenolic and aromatic amine antioxidants for PE, PP, nylon, and flexible urethane polyols. Vanox synergistic antioxidant systems also available for filled PP compounds. Products improve filled compounds' high-temperature stability.

WILSON COLOR INC. A UNIT OF M.A. HANNA CO.

Produces antioxidant concentrates in pellets, chips, granules, and pulverized form. All commercial antioxidants are available combined with commodity and engineering thermoplastics.

WITCO CORP. POLYMER ADDITIVES GROUP

Offers antioxidants for polyolefins, ABS, and other polymers. Both general-purpose and FDA-regulated grades are available, offering a wide range of cost/performance ratios. Among them are phenolics, phenolic-phosphites, and alkyl and aryl phosphites.

Metal deactivators, said to be particularly effective in PP and PE, are also available.

ZENECA INC.

One amine and three phenolic antioxidants commercially available: Topanol CA, Topanol CA-SF and Topanol 205, high-molecular-weight phenolics for use in polyolefin and styrenic systems. PTZ phenothiazine, recommended for stabilization of unsaturated polyester, polyolefins, styrenics, PUs and vinyl resins.
