Another career criminal killed in the act.

Harris County, Texas, homeowner Damon Barone said that he and his wife were awake at 2:15 a.m. on December 14, feeding their infant daughter in their bedroom when he heard a loud noise and the whole house shook. He grabbed a pistol and investigated, and then he heard glass breaking. Barone went into the bedroom where the sound seemed to emanate, and he saw a man climbing in through the window. Barone shot several times, striking and killing the man.

When police arrived at the house, the dead man, later identified as 44-year-old Steven Dunbar, was still lying in the window. Police detective Rolf Nelson told the Houston Chronicle that Dunbar "has at least 12 arrests for felonies and a half-dozen convictions. We don't know if he was intent on some other crime or if it was a burglary for something he could turn into money."

Barone indicated that he was at a loss as to why Dunbar would pick his house to break into. Barone said that not only were the lights on in the master bedroom, but also in the bedroom that Dunbar tried to enter. He discovered that the loud noise that had caused him to investigate was likely from a screen door on the back of the house that had been torn off.
