Another Commander CT Order for KBA.
Bavarian newspaper group Straubinger Tagblatt/Landshuter Zeitung has ordered a 64-page KBA Commander CT press line that will come on stream in stages, replacing a KBA Express delivered in 1990 and extended in 1997.
"This is the most advanced wet offset newspaper press on the market, and will enable us to enhance the immediacy of our newspaper titles and produce full-color paid-fors, frees and supplements in a stunning quality," Straubinger Publisher Martin Balle said in a statement.
In addition to the Landshuter Zeitung and Straubinger Tagblatt, which date from the mid-19th century, the group publishes 13 local titles, operates a Web site from which PDF versions of all titles can be downloaded, and has interests in local radio and television stations.
Technical Director Wolfgang Heitzer noted the compact design, towers that open in the middle, and lifts on either side simplify work, while automation modules minimize make-ready, control and maintenance.
Launched in autumn 2007, KBA Commander CT press lines are already operating at the Main-Post in Wuerzburg, Germany, and the Heraldo de Aragon in Zaragoza, Spain. Earlier this year, New York's Daily News ordered a triplewide version of the press.
