Annual Reviews

627 pages

This is the hard copy volume of the sixty-third annual review of research being done in microbiology that is now available by subscription online. Each essay includes a URL, key words and the email on the authors and the bibliography is linked to any sources that are also online. The topics include work on bacteria, RNA, influenza, malaria, the interactions of elements within ecosystems, anaerobic methane production and the popular catchword "probiotics". The volume commences with an autobiography by microbiologist, Lars. G. Ljungdahl, tracing his life and career in the field. The contents of the review are excellent examples of peer-reviewed material. The adaptation of the material to the Internet is a wonderful example of the best utilization of the web to promote the dissemination of information.
