The 14 articles in this year's volume are more focused than usual on the middle range of the cosmic size scale, considering such matters as star and planet formation, stellar evolution, stellar populations in galaxies, and the behavior of stars and gas in galaxies. The memoir is by P. J. E. Peebles (Princeton U.) on seeing cosmology grow over half a century. Other topics include magnetic fields in molecular clouds, critical reactions in contemporary nuclear astrophysics, adaptive optics for astronomy, observational evidence of active galactic nuclei feedback, and thermonuclear burst oscillations. Chapters and authors are indexed for the past 10 volumes.
