Annual religious festival of Kelash community Chatarmas end.
By CHITRAL, December 24, 2010 (Balochistan Times): Annual religious
festival of Kelash community Chatarmas (Chomas) ended at Bumborate on
Thursday. The festival was simultaneously celebrated in three valleys
Rubmor, Birir and Bumborate while on the final day all Kalash people
gathered at Bumborate valley (headquarters of Kelash) and jointly
celebrate this annual religious festival. Kalash men beating drum and
ringing pipe while Kelash men and women both young and aging people
performed folk dance on the beating of drum which is a part of their
religious worship. Women singing religious songs during festival.
Usually Kelash people dancing in round circle by putting hands on the
shoulder of each other but in this festival they perform dance singly
and clipping and singing during the dance. It was also seem that some
teenager jointly performed traditional dance and conveyed messages of
love to each other in their gestures. Some youth have masked wildlife
faces on their face and enthralling the audience. So many other
colourful events were also presented during the festival. At last Kelash
teenager arrange to elope and announce of their marriage. But the
strangest part of this scenario is eloping of married women to their
friends and announce of marriage. The new husband of this married woman
paid double compensation (price) to her first husband as he had paid to
parents of this woman during her first marriage. And the price is
increasing (doubling) when the same women elope with a third man. A
large number of domestic tourists from each corner of the country
including foreigners attended the festival and enjoyed. The festival was
ended peacefully and security forces were on red alert during the event.
This scenic valley is surrounding by thin forest and snow bound peaks of
mountains from four sides.
