Annual religious festival of Kelash community Chatarmas end.

By CHITRAL, December 24, 2010 (Balochistan Times): Annual religious festival of Kelash community Chatarmas (Chomas) ended at Bumborate on Thursday. The festival was simultaneously celebrated in three valleys Rubmor, Birir and Bumborate while on the final day all Kalash people gathered at Bumborate valley (headquarters of Kelash) and jointly celebrate this annual religious festival. Kalash men beating drum and ringing pipe while Kelash men and women both young and aging people performed folk dance on the beating of drum which is a part of their religious worship. Women singing religious songs during festival. Usually Kelash people dancing in round circle by putting hands on the shoulder of each other but in this festival they perform dance singly and clipping and singing during the dance. It was also seem that some teenager jointly performed traditional dance and conveyed messages of love to each other in their gestures. Some youth have masked wildlife faces on their face and enthralling the audience. So many other colourful events were also presented during the festival. At last Kelash teenager arrange to elope and announce of their marriage. But the strangest part of this scenario is eloping of married women to their friends and announce of marriage. The new husband of this married woman paid double compensation (price) to her first husband as he had paid to parents of this woman during her first marriage. And the price is increasing (doubling) when the same women elope with a third man. A large number of domestic tourists from each corner of the country including foreigners attended the festival and enjoyed. The festival was ended peacefully and security forces were on red alert during the event. This scenic valley is surrounding by thin forest and snow bound peaks of mountains from four sides.
