The 2006 entry in this annual series consists of 26 articles reviewing recent developments in cardiovascular, cell, ecological, evolutionary, comparative, gastrointestinal, renal, and respiratory physiology. A special section of four papers describes the function of mammalian transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, the properties of Drosophila light-sensitive channels, TRP channel pores, and TRP channels in C. elegans. Other topics include transcription factors and congenital heart defects, insulin resistance syndromes, brainstem circuits regulating gastric function, the role of FXYD proteins in ion transport, and stress transmission in the lung.
