Ann gets call for writers' evening.

EVENING TELEGRAPH journalist and children's writer Ann Evans has stepped into the breach at the Coventry Writers at the Hall event tomorrow after a late cancellation by author and broadcaster Diana Appleyard.

Ann has written six children's books although she is best known to Evening Telegraph readers for her features on pets, gardens and cookery.

She will join Helen Cross, whose debut novel My Summer of Love is probably the nightmare read for every parent of a teenager - and former Parliamentary insider Michael Dobbs, who wrote House of Cards, which was turned into a popular television series.

Peter Walters, organiser of the event on behalf of CV One, said: "Although Ann is well-known to Coventry and Warwickshire adults she is equally well-known to seven to 12-year-olds all over the country who enjoy trying to work out whodunnit in murder mysteries such as Fishing for Clues, Stealing the Show and Pushing His Luck."

Ann said: "This was a pleasant, unexpected invitation which I was more than happy to accept."

Tickets, priced pounds 5 including a glass of wine, will be available at the door.
