Anglo to Build Hydrogen-powered Haul Trucks.

Anglo American contracted ENGIE to develop and fuel the hydrogen-powered haul trucks it is developing.

Anglo American leadership said it was "extremely pleased" to partner with ENGIE. "This is part of our plan to create a smart energy mix that moves us closer toward our carbon and energy targets for 2030 and, ultimately, our vision of operating a carbon-neutral mine," Tony O'Neill, technical director, said.

The contract is part of a project, called FutureSmart Mining, which targets sustainability challenges.

A prototype hauler is expected to be completed in 2020, and testing will occur at the miner's Mogalakwena open-pit platinum mine in South Africa.
