Angling: Dave's tactics pay dividends; ANGLING: Latest news and catches from the local waters.

THE fourth round of the Match Fishing Shakespeare Avon League, on a cold but improving River Avon at Evesham, saw plenty of roach action for most of the competitors right through the match length.

Match winner with a quality roach catch of 14-6-0 from Peg 10 was Daventry-based Match Fishing magazine editor Dave Harrell (left).

Dave targeted roach from the off with pole fished breadpunch at 14.5m and bolo-fished bronze maggots well across the river.

Both tactics worked well for roach up to the 12oz mark to earn him a valuable section win.

Second place on the day went to Chris Peberdy, who caught mainly roach plus a couple of chub in his 12-9-0 catch with waggler and maggot from Peg 4. Third place went to the previous round winner Leigh Gardner with 11-3-0 of roach on pole fished hemp plus one big chub on waggler and maggot on Peg 8. Dave is winning the league after four rounds from Leigh Gardner and Mark Sutton.
