Angling: A 10FT rise in the water.

Byline: MATCHMAN

A 10FT rise in the water level put paid to the two-day Monklands Festival, which was to have been fished on Loch Ken.

But every cloud has a silver lining, and five anglers, who decided to stay and have a go anyway instead of turning round and heading for home, enjoyed some good sport - fishing from the road.

One of them, Kirkintilloch tackle shop owner Nigel Foulds, said: "I was using a six metre whip and catching fish in 10ft of water where we would normally be standing."
