Angler is sunk.

GOING fishing was a costly catch for one Tyneside man.

For Anthony Morgan was caught hook, line and sinker without a licence.

The 25-year-old was collared by a water bailiff at Foxpond Lakes at Birtley, Gateshead, on May 1. He was asked to produce his rod licence, which anyone over the age of 12 must have, and admitted he didn't have one, Chris Blackburn, prosecuting for the Environment Agency told Gateshead magistrates.

Morgan, of Gladeley Way, Sunniside, Gateshead, pleaded guilty by letter to fishing without a pounds 27 licence and was fined pounds 100 with pounds 142 costs.

He told the court it was his first time fishing and he didn't know he needed a licence but went and got one straight away.
