Angled deck as seen in 1955; VIEWPOINTS.
IN response to Gordon Phillips (Viewpoints, July 8), here is a photo of HMS Eagle, above, taken arriving at Gibraltar on Monday, June 13, 1955, where you can clearly see the deck layout re-angled.Many thanks for the information from Susan Dearing of the Fleet Air Arm Museum (Viewpoints, July 8), which shows the Ark Royal was not the first to have used an angled deck. HMS Eagle was then involved in the Suez war in November 1956.
The angled deck was, as Gordon Phillips says, extended on the port side between 1959-1962 as I have further photographs of the same.
