Angel watching over us.

IN the 10 years the Angel of the North has graced Gateshead, unemployment in the borough has been halved and average earnings boosted by a third.

The icon can only look on mutely, yet everyone knows how it lifted not just the local area, but the region.

Council leader Mick Henry is right: We have something to be proud of. And when we shout it from the rooftops, we do not shout alone.

Echoing our call are the voices of the countless thousands, from near and far, of visitors proud to share the dream.
