Andy all set to get Radical at Brands; MOTORSPORT.

ANDY Cummings heads for Brands Hatch next weekend looking to beef up his bid for honours in the Radical SR3 Challenge.

e Meriden-based driver is fourth in the championship standings, eight points behind pace-setters Peter Belshaw and Phil Keen, after the opening two races at Donington Park.

And he has high hopes of closing that gap at Brands after producing a ne display at the Kent circuit earlier this month when he claimed two class podiums in the Radical European Masters Cummings made a late decision to take part despite the absence of regular co-driver Bradley Ellis and it paid o as he produced a ne qualifying session to line up second on the grid.

"e car felt good, maybe a little tail happy, but I was very happy with second," said Cummings who made a superb start to open up a seven-second lead despite a safety-car interlude but ran wide after the compulsory pit-stop and had to settle for third spot.

"e rst part was great until the safety car," he explained, "but at the end I was being caught and the car suddenly lost its aero and I went o." e second race followed a similar pattern as Cummings's early lead was sabotaged by a safety session, this time incorporating the pit-stops, but having again dropped to third he nished a strong second.

"It got a bit confusing when I couldn't understand how another car got in front of me at the stops," he admitted. "Second is what I expected and I am not disappointed - the car went well again and it was only towards the end that the tyres started to go o,"
