Android 7.1.1 Release Date For Nexus 6 Confirmed For January.

The Nexus 6 is scheduled to update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat in January, Google confirmed to (http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/12/27/official-android-7-1-1-update-will-come-nexus-6-early-january/) Android Police Tuesday. The tech giant previously sent its (http://www.ibtimes.com/android-711-nougat-features-update-now-available-pixel-nexus-devices-2455368) latest Nougat update to other devices, including the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, the Pixel C tablet, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones, the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus Player dongle in early December.

Pundits believed the Nexus 6 was (http://www.ibtimes.com/android-711-nougat-features-update-now-available-pixel-nexus-devices-2455368) at the end of its Android update cycle and would not receive the new software; however, Google explained that Android 7.1.1 contained a bug specific to that device, which delayed the software rollout.

Since the Nexus 6 is over two years old at this point, there is a good chance Android 7.1.1 could be its last update. With 2017 on the horizon, Google will soon shift it's focus to the preview and release of Android M. There is a good chance, the Nexus 6 won't be viable for an update to the next Android operating system.

With Android 7.1.1, the Nexus 6 will get such features as App shortcuts, circular app icons and updates to the Google keyboard, among others. The update will also include Google's December 2016 security patch.

The software is (https://developers.google.com/android/ota) hitting devices wirelessly , but users can also install the update manually by (https://developers.google.com/android/images) flashing factory images provided by Google.
