Andorra : Andorra presents the 10th World Congress of Snow and Mountain Tourism in Spain.
The World Tourism Congress on snow and mountains will be held under the title Configuring the future of hospitality in mountain destinations. The event, which has a biennial periodicity and each edition is organized in a different parish, celebrates this year the twentieth anniversary. The meeting will bring together a wide range of professionals from the tourism sector, from those responsible for the management of a mountain tourist destination to the entrepreneurs in the housing sector. The main topics to be addressed are the repositioning of tourist accommodation; the challenges of hospitality; the impact of the new tourist service platforms; artificial intelligence or training; and training as key elements to achieve the success of a destination.
The World Congress on snow and mountain tourism is an initiative of the seven communes and the Government of Andorra, together with the World Tourism Organization, with the aim of establishing a forum for a permanent debate on the development and sustainability of tourism in mountain areas. It has a biennial periodicity and is organized by the communes in a rotating manner. At the presentation ceremony today, the Minister of Tourism Francesc Camp highlighted the evolution of policies in the tourism sector in Andorra over the last 20 years. The minister has stated that after years of working for the growth of the sector, now we have to opt for strategies focused on quality, with more sustainable management without losing competitiveness.
In his speech, the mayor of Escaldes-Engordany, Trini Marn, invited to discover the cultural, natural and commercial tourist attractions that this parish offers its visitors.
On the other hand, the UN Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, stressed the importance of tourism in Andorra, as evidenced by the more than eight million visitors who came to the Principality last year. He also highlighted the work carried out from the Themis Foundation of the UNWTO headquartered in Andorra, and encouraged the Government to continue working on the organization of this congress hoping it would be a success.
Thirty professionals will debate about "hospitality"
During the presentation ceremony today at the UNWTO headquarters in Madrid, the final program of the Congress has also been announced, which will be organized in six round table sessions , which will be held on the 21st and 22nd of March at the Congress Center of Andorra la Vella. On Friday, March 23, a technical seminar was scheduled to include a visit to the innovation areas of ActuaTech in Caldea-Inu and various leisure activities.
This edition will include the participation of about thirty international and also Andorra speakers, such as Dr. Fiona Pi, from the Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (Switzerland) and architecta partner on Mon-designlab-architecture in Geneva (Switzerland) in the first session. In the second session, Jordi Daban, CEO of Daguisa Hotels Andorra, will take part. In session 5 will participate, Omar Valdez, executive director of the OMT Themis Foundation; and Miquel Nicolau, rector of the University of Andorra. The participation of the Scientific Director of the Congress, Christopher Hinteregger, and the moderators Albert Grau, Managing Director, MAGMA Hospitality Consulting, (Barcelona) and Enric Torres Arauz, Product and New Projects Director, of Andorra Turisme, are also highlighted.
During the congress, training and training for the sector will also be addressed. In this sense, in October, the University of Andorra, together with the Themis Foundation of the WTO, will impart a postgraduate course in the management of mountain tourism destinations. This training will be supported by the University of State of Colorado (United States of America), and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Lucerne (Switzerland). The inauguration of the Congress will be carried out by the Head of Government, Antoni Mart; of the Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili; and the mayor of Escaldes-Engordany, Trini Marn.
